With the rapid advances in digital education, it's essential that we equip our faculty with the knowledge and tools to thrive in this new landscape. With generous Seed Funds provided by the Southern University Foundation we are initiating a groundbreaking project titled “Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Open Education Practices (OEP) for Institutional Transformation”. This initiative aims to weave AI into the fabric of our educational practices, thereby ensuring that SUS campuses remain at the forefront of innovation and excellence. As a stakeholder in this journey, your insights and attitudes towards AI and its potential impact on education are invaluable.
Why are we doing this?
As more higher education stakeholders discover and use generative AI, intentional staffing and governance will ensure that institutions adopt these technologies effectively and appropriately. Like in any technology infusion, it is critical that one engages faculty mon decision making and directions for technology adoption. I am sharing this this publication from Educause, a faculty survey results: Adopting and Adapting to Generative AI (GenAI) in Higher Education. I strongly encourage you to read this report as it is analytical about AI and faculty believes. It is our intention at SU to build a momentum about the ethical use and adoption of AI, but also to write comprehensive institutional policies. Also, we all seem to be riding the same boat, Nearly half of surveyed faculty are pessimistic on AI impact in Higher Ed.
